Don Guanella Center offers two types of family support - Respite Care and Flexible Funding - so that individuals who are developmentally disabled can remain in their home and community for as long as possible.
Don Guanella Center Mission Statement
In keeping with the basic philosophy and spirit of the center's namesake, Father Louis Guanella, the Center strives to promote and protect the basic human dignity of all persons regardless of their disabilities. Each person is to be cared for and treated with Christ-like respect, compassion, gentleness, and understanding. We are committed to support each person with a holistic program which supports the physical, emotional, spiritual, and social needs of each and every one of our guests.
Respite Care
Respite care provides for time away from or outside their family home, in a setting that is home-like, warm, and secure. Parents or guardians can make reservations for their special needs family member to stay at Don Guanella Center for the weekend, for one, two, or three weeks, or perhaps “just for the day."
Our staff provide helpful, timely and courteous assistance according to the individual needs of each of our guests. The comfort and well being of each one is our priority.
Certified staff help with routine medication administration and/or first aid as needed.
Flexible Funding
Funding offered through the Department of Mental Retardation allows families to purchase in-home or community services. One option available is respite care in a center such as Don Guanella. The family may also decide to seek funding to pay for in-home personal help or professional services in the community. This type of funding gives each family a wide variety of options to fit their particular needs.
