The main revenue of Don Guanella Center comes from our contract with the Massachusetts Department of Mental Retardation. However, this pays for “just the basics”. Any and all extraordinary expenses must be paid with donations and/or monies from fund raising.
Currently, we have a wish list which includes the following very important items:
A lowered floor, handicap accessible ramp-van:
This is an adapted mini-van with a fold-out ramp that would be perfect for transporting our ladies in wheelchairs. This will open a whole new world to these ladies as they will be able to join their peers on outings to the mall, movies, the museum, the park, restaurants, etc.
The total cost of the mini-van and conversion work is about $40,000.00. Any and all contributions will certainly help. You CAN BE the hands of Providence.
New windows in the bedroom wing of respite:
The current windows are outdated and not practical. Many cannot be properly opened, cleaned, or repaired. There are 8 bedrooms that need new windows.
The estimated cost of new, easily-cleaned, tilt-in windows is about $8,000.00. Any help for these windows would be greatly appreciated. You CAN BE the hands of Providence.
Four 13" Color TV/VCRs:
Many of our special guests like to watch TV or a movie in their own rooms. Currently, we have 3 individual TVs - TV/VCRs to be used in the bedrooms. We need 4 more to make this available to all our special ladies.
Each TV/VCR has an estimated cost of $100.00 - $125.00. Whatever you would like to give will be helpful. You CAN BE the hands of Providence.
